Don’t Let the World Change Who You Should Become

The wound is where the light enters you. — Rumi

We go through bad times. Some of them are tough while others feel devastating.

We lose what we held dear. We get ignored, rejected, taken for granted, cheated on.

The world appears like a nasty place, one where selfish people thrive and nice people finish last. An eye for an eye seems the only justified behavior, even if it makes the whole world blind.

But of what use is such a world? And is this an accurate depiction of humankind?

Take a step back and look around. The world is filled with people and experiences that will make you strive to be a better person.

You’ll find amazing people who accept you for who you are, who go out of their way to help you, and cheer for you even when you finish last in a race.

Your experiences will make you stronger. You learn to do things you couldn’t imagine, look back at your life and say, “It wasn’t so bad after all.”

You don’t hollow sex to get over the pain of being rejected or cheated on.

You don’t need revenge when someone hurts you.

You don’t have to hate someone to realize they’re not good for you. — Jessica Wildfire

Nor do you need to get addicted to substances or even Netflix to numb the pain.

Feel the pain. Let it pierce your heart. Listen to the deep, quiet voice which speaks after the loud ones subside. Let the voice guide you to learn from your experiences.

When you learn from a particular experience, it has served its purpose. Then, .

Do something out of a sense of duty, not because it’s easier in the present moment. Let by a scorecard that measures your values, ethics, and beliefs. Refuse to let the world decide which frame you should fit.

Don’t lose faith in yourself even when everything is pitch dark. After all, it’s the darkest before dawn.

You will meet people who help you become the best version of yourself. But to find them, you must first be worthy. Let your actions push you to become a better human being, regardless of circumstances.

You are beautiful and unique in that you can offer the world something nobody else can. Don’t let it slip. Don’t let the world change who you are and who you should be.
